Glossary
- Vehicle alarm
Vehicle alarms draw attention to would-be thieves with sirens, beeps and other loud noises. Some systems trigger flashing lights too.
- Steering wheel locking device
Steering wheel locking devices are attached to the steering wheel of your vehicle and provide a great visual deterrent; most thieves prefer to target vehicles that are easy to steal.
- Electronic immobilizer
An electronic immobilizer is a security device that automatically engages when the vehicle is turned off. It interrupts the power supply to three vital circuits: the starter, the ignition and the fuel pump, and only when the correctly coded key is used are the circuits re-enabled. All new cars, vans, light trucks and SUVs built in Canada must be equipped with anti-theft engine immobilizers as of September 1, 2007.
